Say No to Poverty
On October 17, 2016 the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) wants to emphasize that poverty is a violation of human rights and that all people and our political institutions have a duty to work for the realisation of a world free of poverty and social exclusion. On this day we call on all people to say NO to poverty, to say NO to human suffering and to say YES to ensure everyone has access to a dignified life. Eradicating poverty is not a utopia, but an urgent objective that needs political will and courage to fulfill. EAPN on this day commits itself to continue to collaborate to achieve this goal.
On this day we express our concern that Europe risks to lose the support built up from all its collective achievements to date if it fails to take decisive actions to address growing levels of poverty and inequality. We reiterate our call for:
- A transformative EU social and economic agenda
- A clear EU social dimension based on access to social rights, social investment and social standards, within an EU anti-poverty strategy
- Clear mechanisms to ensure effective NGO and civil society participation.
