30/11 – The latest report on income and poverty published today shows that inequality in Ireland has grown dramatically. The preliminary results from the Central Statistics Office Survey of Income and Living Conditions 2010 shows that the at-risk of poverty rate grew from 14.1% in 2009 to 15.8% in 2010.
07/12 – (Utrecht) Hugo Swinnen has been a notable actor in the fight against poverty – contributing over thirty years to research and policy solutions on gender, participatory democracy and the interrelationships with poverty and social exclusion policy at national and EU level.
Eurocities held their final event in the Cities for Active Inclusion project for 2011 on the 29th November in Brussels, assessing the key findings. The morning session included inputs from EP Employment Committee Vice President: Elizabeth Schroeder on the Future of ESF, followed by good practice workshops on social innovation, active inclusion of young people, quality of social services and social economy.
05-06/12 – Fintan Farrell, Director of EAPN spoke in this important and timely conference organised by Commissioner Andor and the European Commission in Brussels on the 5th and 6th December. The conference focused on all aspects of the growing inequality gap and its role in undermining social inclusion and cohesion, as well as economic growth.
05/12 – In advance of the EU Council meeting on 8 and 9 December, EAPN has sent a letter to EU Prime Ministers outlining their proposals for a way out of the crisis which prioritises solidarity and an inclusive Europe 2020 Strategy.
