In its response to the Commission Communication on Flexicurity released late June, the European Anti Poverty Network (EAPN) suggests ways to ensure that the security dimension of Flexicurity is more developed. EAPN calls on Member States to give the objective of social inclusion a higher priority in the Flexicurity debate.

Ahead of the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council due to take place in Portugal on 5-7 July, the European Anti Poverty Network (EAPN) calls on EU Social Affairs Ministers to strengthen the social dimension of the Lisbon strategy.

The European Anti Poverty Network (EAPN) has mixed feelings about the agreement reached on 23 June by the European Council on the Intergovernmental Conference (IGC) mandate which will provide the basis and framework for the drawing up of the new “Reform Treaty”. While welcoming the balancing between social and free market objectives and other positive elements concerning Social Europe, EAPN calls on the EU political leaders to secure social policy’s rightful place at the top of the EU agenda in the upcoming IGC negotiations.

The European Anti Poverty Network (EAPN) welcomes the initiative taken by the Collective SSIG FR in organizing the seminar held yesterday in Brussels (5th June) to discuss ways of moving forward in the debate on Social and Health Services of General Interest. This conference was a welcome next step, following on from the Commission’s Seminar on the 4th June which presented the findings of the consultation on Social and Health Services of General Interest and the related Study.

At a crucial time when the European Commission has embarked on a process of scrutinising Member States’ National Strategic Reference Frameworks and Operational Programmes for 2007-2013, the European Anti Poverty Network (EAPN) calls on the Commission to live up to its responsibility and make sure this new round enables the EU to make a decisive impact on poverty and social exclusion.
