EAPN - European Anti-Poverty Network

This position paper sets out EAPN proposals on the way forward for an EU strategy for post 2010. EAPN strongly believes that 2010 is a crucial moment for the EU, as it marks the 2010 EU year against poverty and social exclusion and is also the date fixed by the Lisbon Strategy in 2000 to make a decisive impact on the eradication of poverty.

For EAPN, it is time to admit our economic model hasn’t been able to deliver prosperity for all. The crisis raises severe challenges for the EU, but it is also an opportunity to shape a new vision for the EU and its role in the world.
EAPN calls for an EU we can trust, with 1) a new social and sustainable post 2010 EU strategy which makes progress on poverty and inequality a pre-requisite, along with 2) a social Progress Pact delivering on rights and solidarity. That strategy also entails 3) building a dynamic partnership for change, implementing participative governance involving NGOs and people experiencing poverty. This position paper also presents a set of recommendations for each point it raises.
