Stiglitz Committee: France’s initiative to measure social progress and people’s well-being

The Economic Performance and Social Progress Monitoring Committee, better known as the Stiglitz Committee delivered its first report to the French President Nicolas Sarkozy on 14 September.

In this report, the committee puts forward 12 proposals to "place more emphasis on the gauging of the population's contentment than on economic production." The Stiglitz Committee was created on 8 January 2008 on the proposal of President Sarkozy to look into and add to the national wealth indicators to measure social progress and people's well-being.
