EAPN Portugal joined the celebration of Europe Day 9 May with one of their most important annual events – The National Members Meeting – which took place in Santarém.
The meeting brought together over 150 participants from across the country and sized up the 25 years existence of EAPN in Portugal and its mission to eradicate poverty, and defend human dignity and the access to rights for all. It was also a good opportunity to trace the social picture of the country and carry out a thorough analysis of the evolution of indicators for inequality, poverty and social exclusion.
During the meeting a study on “The social and institutional impact of the economic and financial crisis in the Third Sector organizations in Portugal” was presented. The study – carried out by EAPN Portugal in partnership with Coimbra University – sought to know the strengths and weaknesses of the sector before the economic crisis; the impact of third sector organizations in the way they operate in the social reality and position themselves in relation to the state; the perceptions of these organizations in the field/sector they operate, and finally to know the solutions implemented in response to the crisis and how they view the future.
