26 Governments seem set to ignore EU Poverty Reduction Target
Brussels, 19 April 2012 – In advance of the General Affairs Council on the 24th of April, the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) has written to Prime Ministers insisting that the decisions they make in relation to the next round of Structural Funds is consistent with the agreed EU poverty reduction target.
EAPN campaigns to support 20% ESF allocation for social inclusion
Brussels, 13 March 2012 - Following its response to the Commission’s legislative package for Cohesion Policy, EAPN calls on all Member States to support the Commission’s proposal of a 20% ring-fenced allocation of the European Social Fund (ESF) for social inclusion and the fight against poverty. The call was made in a letter to all Directors General of Cohesion Policy in the Member States, in advance of their meeting on the 13-14 March. The ESF’s potential for contributing to the EU poverty-reduction target is currently under threat, as some Member States are expressing reservations with regard to the introduction of the proposed 20% ring-fencing for social inclusion.

Brussels, 29 February 2012 - On the eve of the European Council on 1-2 March 2012, the European Federation of Public Services Unions (EPSU) and the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) call on European governments and EU institutions to focus on addressing inequality and promoting inclusive growth rather than slashing public services, social security systems and commit to the delivery of Europe 2020 targets.

Brussels, 22 February 2012 – In the wake of the new “bail out’’ package for Greece by the “Troika’’, EAPN has sent a letter to President Barroso, copied to the Heads of the IMF and ECB, setting out 5 key actions, consistent with the agreed Europe 2020 strategy, that should be taken in all countries in receipt of such economic support. These actions are aimed at reversing the attacks on social rights that has been a key feature of these “bail out’ packages to date.
