Objective: to have an impact on the content of the common principles on active inclusion the French presidency is planning to have adopted at the Council meeting on 15-16 December 2008.
Let us work towards a social Europe which does not allow social exclusion! This was the call issued by the Slovenian Minister Mrs Marjeta Cotman, at the 7th European Meeting of People Experiencing Poverty which was held on 16 and 17 May in Brussels.
Just before the Commission should table new anti-discrimination legislation, EAPN expresses its support for enhanced legislation to combat discrimination in all areas of life and on all grounds recognized by the EC Treaty (article 13).
Brussels, 22 May 2008 – Dismayed by the range of tough new measures to tackle ‘illegal’ immigration the new Italian government unveiled yesterday, EAPN calls on the European institutions to ensure that human rights obligations are respected.

On the 6th of May, the Internal Market Committee voted on the report on the Internal Market in Electricity, The report is mainly focussed on the thorny question of “ownership unbundling” ie forcing energy firms to split up their energy production and distribution businesses. On 16 -19 June the European Parliament will vote in plenary on the report.
EAPN has been actively preparing its members to engage with the new cycle of the Open Method of Coordination on social protection and social inclusion through a series of capacity building tools and events.
These events involved EAPN National members, facilitators involved in the 7th People Experiencing poverty conference, and members from key Development organisations including CONCORD, Solidar, Caritas, ATD Fourth World and Dignity International.
The main aim of the capacity building seminar was to achieve a new momentum on EAPN’s
engagement with the NAP/OMC and to promote more effective engagement at national and EU level.
