The European Meeting of People experiencing Poverty takes place this year on 19-20 November 2015 in Brussels as a consultation with people experiencing poverty to gather their input on policies to foster social convergence in Europe and to strengthen the participation of people experiencing poverty in policies that affect them. Delegations of people experiencing poverty from 30 countries in Europe exchange with EU officials and other policy makers. It is expected that the outcomes of this Year’s meeting will feed into the Annual Convention on Poverty and Social Exclusion that is likely to take place early 2016.

Living Wage Week 2015 will be begin this coming Monday 02/11 with the announcement of the new Living Wage rate. The week is a UK-wide celebration of the Living Wage and of those employers paying the Living Wage. It is coordinated by the Living Wage Foundation across the UK and by the Poverty Alliance in Scotland.

13/10/2015 – The own-initative report on “Reducing inequalities with a special focus on child poverty”[1] was adopted today by the Employment and Social Affairs Committee of the European Parliament. The report – by rapporteur Inês Cristina Zuber MEP – makes several recommendations that could make a real contribution to reducing child poverty and improving health equity. These recommendations are also in line with the evidence from DRIVERS[2] research, a FP7 project coordinated by EuroHealthNet and with EAPN as one of the main partners.
22/10/2015 – The Poverty Alliance will celebrate the close of Challenge Poverty Week 2015 by hosting the 6th Scottish Assembly for Tackling Poverty at the Royal Concert Halls in Glasgow on Friday. The Scottish Assembly for Tackling Poverty has been organised by the Poverty Alliance since 2010. Over this time the Assemblies have brought together hundreds of people with direct experience of poverty, activists, representatives of community and voluntary organsiations, trade unions, faith groups, researchers, policy makers and politicians. The events have become a become a key forum for discussion around the problems of poverty in Scotland and how they could be more effectively addressed.
