27/07/2015 – EAPN has released its briefing on Juncker’s EU Investment Plan and the European Fund for Strategic Investment (EFSI). As a consequence of the economic crisis, the level of investment in the EU has dropped significantly since its peak in 2007, by about 15%. The former Barroso Commission had been characterized by the austerity era, where fiscal consolidation has been over prioritized at the expense of investments, including social investment. Although the current Juncker Commission is composed by the same political coalition, the urgency of a response in terms of investment to the consequences of the economic and financial crisis seems to have become more prominent.
The Social Platform, with EAPN as member, has sent a letter to Heads of States, Presidents of the EU, and Presidents of the European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund about the social emergency in Greece. Read the letter here.

EAPN’s 2015 Strategic Congress and General Assembly took firm stand against EU policies on social crisis, migration and Greece
Brussels, 7 July 2015 – More than 150 delegates of the European Anti-Poverty Network, representing 31 National Networks and 18 European Organizations, took the opportunity of EAPN’s Strategic Congress and General Assembly to address a final declaration to the EU Heads of States and Governments.
EAPN holds its Strategic Congress and General Assembly 03 & 04 July 2015
The European-Anti Poverty Network holds its Strategic Congress and General Assembly, on 03 and 04 July 2015 in Bilbao, Spain, attended by over 100 participants. The event is a key moment for EAPN members, EAPN national networks and European Organisations member of EAPN, to exchange and to endorse EAPN’s new Strategic Plan. The participation of key representatives from academic institutions, regional, national and EU authorities will enrich the debates. The President of the Basque Country Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu will notably open EAPN’s the Strategic Congress. EAPN’s Strategic Congress also comes at a decisive moment to take a firm stand on several crises, notably on the EU Migration Agenda and on the EU’s response to the Greek crisis. On 04 July, EAPN’s 2015 General Assembly will also elect its new board.
Press Statement of the EU Alliance for Investing in Children on the occasion of the European Parliament’s adoption of the European Fund for Strategic Investments
25/06/2015 – The EU Alliance for Investing in Children welcomes the European Parliament’s adoption of the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) – yesterday during their plenary session in Brussels. MEPs have added important provisions on how the EFSI should be allocated which will ensure long-term strategic investments and societal progress, such as investment in targeted social policies in line with the 2013 Social Investment Package and support of projects in the fields of human capital, culture, education and health. In addition, we welcome the inclusion that the EFSI should contribute to achieving the Europe 2020 targets.However, the Alliance for Investing in Children regrets that investing in education from an early age is no longer explicitly mentioned in the adopted text. There is considerable evidence on the benefits of investing in early childhood education and care for all children for achieving long term results in tackling poverty, exclusion and unemployment.
24/06/2015 – This week negotiations on the final text for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are taking place in the UN. The outcome should be the final agreement that world leaders will sign for in the Summit in September. The current document being discussed is the “Zero-Draft” in which we want to see an explicit mention of the Human Right to Water and Sanitation in the final text, as stated and drafted by the NGO Mining Working Group.
