EAPN Spain presents 5th Report on the State of Poverty in Spain

14/10/2015 – EAPN SPain presented its 5th Report “State of Poverty, Follow up on the indicator on poverty and social exclusion 2009-2014 (Informe ‘El Estado de la Pobreza. Seguimiento del indicador de pobreza y exclusión social en España 2009 – 2014’) at Ecooo Headquarters in Madrid highlighting that poverty and social exclusion have reached record levels. The event is part of the Week against Poverty and Social Exclusion, aroudn the 17th October International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

EAPN and EPSU send joint letter on Energy Poverty to Energy Union Commissioner Šefčovič’s cabinet

14/10/2015 – EAPN and EPSU sent a joint letter to the cabinet of the Energy Union Commissioner and Vice President, Maroš Šefčovič as a follow up to a dialogue meeting held on the 11 September. The meeting and letter highlighted EAPN and EPSU’s joint concerns about growing Energy Poverty, with an estimated 54 million (10.8%) of EU citizens affected by energy poverty in 2012 (See Insight-E study). Yet despite this failure, only 12% of the most vulnerable consumers are put on the lowest energy tariffs.

Brussels, 12 October 2015 – Last Friday 09 October, the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) held its Annual Conference in partnership with the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), building and debating on EAPN’s Assessment of the 2015 National Reform Programmes (NRPs) and European Semester. The report gives exhaustive evidence that reducing poverty and promoting effective participation must be put at the heart of the European Semester, if the EU is to respect its Europe 2020 commitments regarding poverty and participation and restore the social dimension of the EU.

EAPN Assessment of the National Reform Programmes 2015 – Can the Semester Deliver on Poverty and Participation?

09/10/2015 – Today EAPN released its EAPN Assessment of the National Reform Programmes 2015 – Can the Semester Deliver on Poverty and Participation? at its Annual Policy Conference held in partnership with and at the premises of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). The report, strongly welcomed by the attendance including high-level representatives, provides a synthesis of EAPN members’ assessment of the 2015 National Reform Programmes. Each of the 21 National EAPN Networks have assessed on how far the NRPs are delivering on the social targets of Europe 2020 (particularly the poverty target, but also the employment and education targets) and on the effectiveness of civil society stakeholders’ engagement with the governance process of the Semester and Europe 2020. The report consequently draws 3 main messages.
