EAPN urges EU to tackle root causes of migration

EAPN calls on the Heads of States to stop squabbling over migration and act now in line with our principles of solidarity and human rights

Brussels, 25 June 2015 – As Heads of States prepare their discussion for the meeting of the Council of the European Union next 25-26 June, thousands of migrants set off for the perilous journey to Europe risking their lives to find safety here. In the context of this humanitarian crisis which is unfolding every single day EAPN urges the EU and its Member States to live up to the principles on which the EU is built: human rights, solidarity and respect for democracy.

19/06/2015 – 19/06/2015 – The EU Alliance for a democratic, social and sustainable European Semester also called ‘Semester Alliance’ addressed a letter yesterday to Heads of States and top EU officials ahead of the EU Council next 25 & 26 June on the endorsement of the 2015 Country-Specific Recommendations (CSRs). The Semester Alliance highlights that the EU has failed to deliver an inclusive recovery strategy and that immediate action is needed to bring the Europe 2020 back on track with all its initial goals.

The partners in the EU Alliance for Investing in Children are deeply concerned that the Commission’s fewer, but targeted, priorities fail to address the needs of  in the EU, in particular over 26 million children1 who are at risk of poverty and social exclusion.

15/06/2015 – Today, Barbara Helfferich, Vice-President of the Social Platform and EAPN Director will speak at the public hearing organised in the European Parliament on “The Revision of the Europe 2020 Strategy”. This public hearing is organised on 15 June as a follow-up to the European Parliament resolution of 25 November 2014 on the employment and social aspects of the Europe 2020 strategy which was prepared in the EMPL and should feed into the Commission’s public consultation on Europe 2020.

EAPN holds a capacity-building training for its members

On 18-19 June, EAPN will hold a capacity-building training for its members to help them strengthen their knowledge and skills on how to engage in social-policy work both at EU and national levels. The regular trainings EAPN organizes are a key element contributing to the Network’s acknowledged ability to bring its different sources of expertise together in a bottom-up and participative approach.
