Brussels, 24 September 2014 – “Words are not enough”, was the clear message from the 13th European Meeting of People experiencing Poverty organised by European Anti-Poverty Network in Brussels the 22-24 September.

“The words on paper that the next round of Structural Funds will provide increased funding for social inclusion with 20% of the European Social Fund earmarked for fighting poverty and social exclusion is not enough” said Sérgio Aires, President of EAPN. “People in poverty are tired of empty promises.

16/09/2014 – EAPN issues its new and long-awaited Explainer on Poverty and Inequality in the EU, an update of the Explainer of the same name issued in 2009 and one of EAPN’s most popular publications. This explainer sets out to provide a simple introduction to the poverty debate. It focuses primarily on current perspectives on the nature and extent of poverty, its causes and its links to inequality. It explains how poverty is understood and measured currently in the EU, and highlights some of the shortcomings of these approaches.

We are delighted to welcome you on this new website dedicated to PeP Meetings, compiling all the information related to this year’s Meeting but also to the past Meetings. The 13th European Meeting of People experiencing  Poverty (PeP) will take place from 22 to 24 September 2014 in Brussels.   The theme of this Year’s meeting is funding the fight against poverty and in particular will look at the use of Structural Funds as part of the key European Funds available. The European Meeting is only the tip of the iceberg and many national and local events and initiatives feed into and follow up from the European meetings.
