19/06/2014 – The Poverty Alliance has responded to figures published today by Poverty and Social Exclusion (PSE) in the UK. The figures show that almost one in five people in Scotland are multiply deprived i.e. suffering from three or more measures of poverty such as a lack of food, heating and clothing.

18/06/2014 – Active Inclusion is a strategy developed by the European Commission in 2008 and is designed to support people of working age who are experiencing social exclusion to live a life in dignity and help them move towards a decent job or to get more confidence and skills to participate more actively in their communities. However, little progress has been made in providing an integrated comprehensive strategy for active inclusion which combines adequate minimum support, inclusive labour market with access to quality services. In this short leaflet, EAPN gives 10 indisputable arguments for an integrated active-inclusion strategy, to reduce poverty, exclusion and inequalities and to enable everyone to live a decent life and participate in society.

03/06/2014 – EAPN Spain has recently discovered the Recommendations of the European Council on the Spanish Government’s NRP. First, the measures outlined will involve a higher level of cuts in order to keep adjusting the deficit. If the implementation of this recommendation does not take into account the negative social impacts, inequality rates, adult and youth unemployment, poverty and social exclusion rates will inevitably keep rising. Second, the Council is aware of the acute social problems in Spain, and is asking the Spanish Government to may more attention to it.

Details14-15/05/2014 – As elections in the EU were approaching, a People’s Tribunal Hearing on the EU’s response to the crisis took place in Brussels, organised by Corporate Europe Observatory. On 15 and 16 May, representatives from organisations across Europe gave testimony to an era of financial, economic and social crisis which began in 2008. Their verdict? The EU’s policies have taken Europe on a course towards social and political regression. Fintan Farrell, from EAPN Secretariat, contributed to the Tribunal on behalf of EAPN with a presentation on the impact of austerity on poverty and social exclusion in the EU.
