Electing Champions for a Social Europe pan-European campaign was carried out by the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) and its members (29 national networks and 18 European organisations) representing hundreds of organisations on the ground working with thousands of European citizens as well as other partners supporting a social Europe. It called on the candidates to the European Elections to commit, by signing, to the fight against poverty, social exclusion and inequalities. Visit the campaign’s site here!
Success for the Campaign EU Money for poverty Reduction NOW!
From June 2012 till November 2013, EAPN with 19 other social NGOs ran the Campaign EU Money for Poverty Reduction NOW! to back the European Commission’s proposal, welcomed by all social NGOs and also supported by the European Parliament, to allocate:
- 25% of the Cohesion Policy budget to the European Social Fund and
- 20% of the ESF to social inclusion and poverty reduction

24 out of 27 Member States have minimum income schemes in place at this present time, but there are serious flaws with their accessibility and their adequacy. It is time to state clearly that adequate Minimum Income schemes are a fundamental prerequisite for an EU based on social justice and equal opportunities for all!

Minimum income can be defined as a non contributory income guarantee that enables people who cannot fend for themselves, to receive a minimum amount of monetary income.
