The United Nations Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, Olivier De Schutter, will conduct an official visit to the European Union from 25 November 2020 to 29 January 2021, at the invitation of the European Union. His visit will focus on the relationship between the internal market and poverty and on the impacts of socio-economic governance in the EU and associated macroeconomic policies on poverty, inequality, and social exclusion in the European Union. Specific attention shall also be dedicated to the response of the EU to the COVID-19 crisis, through the “Next Generation EU” package. To collect input for his analysis he takes into account all interested individuals and organisations, including civil society organisations, activists, and academics.
EAPN organised an internal roundtable with him to kick off his visit and provide input from our members. During this roundtable we put the focus on the European Pillar of Social Rights (EPSR) and the European Semester.
