Poverty and Access to Education!  #2018PEP

The 17th edition of the EU Meeting of People Experiencing Poverty will be on Poverty and Access to Education. Over a hundred people experiencing poverty – both working and out of work – will be in Brussels from 7 November to exchange ideas together and with EU politicians and policy makers.

Monday 7th November


9.00 -10.30 Registration & ‘Market place’

  • Networking and informal exchange between delegates and guests – with tea, coffee and

National delegations share materials from the preparatory work carried out at national level
on access to education. Other actors (European Organization, groups with projects
supported by european funds…) are invited to hold stands to share about their projects
related on access to education

10.30 – 11.15 Opening Plenary

  • Vera Hinterdorfer, EAPN Vice-President;
  • Testimonies from 2- 3 members of national delegations ;
  • Katarina Ivanković Knežević, – Director for Social Affairs in DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion European of the European Commission;
  • Representative of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research -EU Affairs (tbc);
  • Video intervention from Marianne Thyssen – European Commissioner for Employment,
    Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility

11.15 – 13.00 World Café

14.00 – 15.30 Final rounds of World Café & collective sharing

15.30-16.00 Coffee break & ‘Family picture’

16.00 – 17.30 Taking the discussions forwards
This session will work on making the discussion more action-oriented and to provide input for the
plenary debate of the next day.

Thursday 8th November


9.00 – 9.30 Visibility Action : “Freeze Flashmob” – In front of Brussels-Central Station
(subject to prior autorization)
Participants freeze up for a few minutes in postures relating to the topic of the meeting, then
engage with the public

10.15-11.00 Finalizing the preparations for the plenary session

11.00 – 13.00 Dialogue between national delegations of people experiencing poverty and policy
