“On our watch” action:
In 2013- 2014 the EAPN launched the campaign Electing Champions for a Social Europe to encourage political candidates in the European parliamentary elections to take forward the fight against poverty and to build a more democratic and human European dimension. The campaign was a great success as EAPN managed to gather the commitment of over 10% of the newly elected MEPs to fighting poverty within a context of low turn-out and rise of populist parties. To find out if the European Parliament lived up to its commitments, European Civil Society Organisations have joined forces in a new initiative called #onourwatchEU. It aims to make a mid-term assessment of the work of the MEPs on a variety of issues since 2014. The platform focuses on topics that directly affect European citizens such as fighting poverty, corruption, youth participation, etc. EAPN has joined the project, launched by the European Youth Forum, European Movement International and IHECS Brussels School and has been assessing the anti-poverty work of the signatories of the EAPN pledge but also of other MEPs.

ASSIST 2gether(Support Network for Household Energy Saving) Project:
ASSIST (Support Network for Household Energy Saving) is a European project funded by the European Commission under the H2020 programme. Its aim is to fight energy poverty by actively engaging consumers in the energy market, generating a positive change of behaviour in relation to energy consumption and to influence the design of energy poverty-oriented policies. Addressing both energy and social issues, ASSIST intends to contribute to tackling the main barriers of the energy market (taking into account electricity and heating) faced by a specific segment of people: vulnerable consumers with special focus on energy poor. ASSIST, started on the 1st of May 2017, foresees the development of several activities over a 3 year period in 6 European countries: Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Poland, Belgium and Finland. EAPN’s main role in the project is to lead on the policy orientation work of the project and more specifically to create a European Vulnerable Consumers Steering Committee (VCSC) that will communicate to the 28 member states and support project partners in the creation of National Vulnerable Consumers’ Steering Committees. The inputs and feedback received during the national and European meetings will be used to develop a policy recommendation paper.
