The event was well attended. Over 120 people from a total of 10 countries were present, including all the big trade-union federations in Romania. The two sessions dealt with economic governance (especially the European Semester) and corruption. The event yielded a joint Declaration of the Romanian civil society and trade unions, calling for an immediate end of austerity and proposing concrete alternatives to ensure that people are not left behind with the huge bill of the crisis. The Declaration, as well as the conference documents, can be consulted (in Romanian only) at www.conferintasocialareunita.ro. The work of the overall JSC will continue with the organisation of its annual Spring Social Conference on March 15-16, 2011.
