Ahead of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, 3 European networks, representing more than +335 organisations, are joining forces to demand the EU Anti-Poverty Strategy work for everyone, especially those left at the margins.
Our new joint statement highlights that trans people and sex workers remain among those most affected by poverty, discrimination and exclusion. Yet their realities are too often ignored in policymaking.
A rights-based, intersectional Anti-Poverty Strategy must tackle systemic inequality, deconstruct stigma, and ensure meaningful participation for those most affected. A headline target isn't enough. The strategy must dismantle the structural barriers that perpetuate poverty for all. We call on the European Commission to ensure the Anti-Poverty Strategy:
✅ Prioritises intersectional data and funding
✅ Ensures meaningful participation of trans-led and sex worker-led organisations
✅ Advocates for the full decriminalisation of sex work
✅ Mandates trans-inclusive enforcement of equality directives It’s time to build a Europe where everyone can live with dignity, equality and access to opportunity.
