Memorandum “for more solidarity in society” to Mr Di Rupo, the political ‘formateur’
22/08 – EAPN’s Belgian network presented its memorandum “Pour une société plus solidaire” (“for more solidarity in society”) to Elio Di Rupo, head of the Socialist Party and responsible for forming a leading coalition and a government. Recalling promises made in the National Reform Programme and in the Europe 2020 Strategy, his memorandum calls for strong policies to fight poverty and social exclusion, against a background of 15% of the Belgian population living in or being at risk of poverty. The memorandum highlights concrete proposals and existing tools to reduce poverty and social exclusion. It also reflects on the extent to which the overall programme of the ‘formateur’ in trying to build a political coalition could contribute to the fight against poverty.
