Are you studying to become an interpreter? Are you fluent in English and other European language? Are you based in Brussels? This Call is for you!!
EAPN is looking for volunteers to act as interpreters at the 20th European Meeting of People experiencing Poverty (PeP). The event will take place in Brussels at Royal Library of Belgium between 29 and 30 November 2022. This meeting will assemble over 120 people from all over Europe with direct experience of poverty, as well as important stakeholders at the EU-level. The official language of the event is English but, as EAPN tries to be as inclusive as possible, we are looking for students and young professionals to join us for the meeting and support our delegates with their interpretation skills from English to their language and back.
Volunteer interpreters play a vital role in this meeting as it provides individuals with the opportunity to fully convey their challenges and messages to all who attend, including representatives in EU. This meeting is an excellent learning opportunity for any student/young professional to practice interpretation/language skills in a conference stetting, liaise with EU stakeholders and professional interpreters. After the meeting, all volunteers will receive a certificate recognizing their practice and social engagement.
The theme for this year’s meeting is ‘The unbearable cost of living’. This meeting will explore challenges and solutions linked to the very high cost of living people caused by the multiple crises we are facing: economic crisis, climate crisis, the war in Ukraine, aftermath of the Corona crisis. You can find additional information on our website here.
Volunteers will be supporting delegations with simultaneous interpretation, specifically whispered interpretation. We kindly ask for their presence from goes from 9h30 to 17h on Tuesday 29th and from 9h30 to 12h30 on Wednesday 30th November (with lunch and coffee breaks provided by EAPN). If these times conflict with their schedule however, we still welcome any time they can give and ask that they alert us of the hours you are able to participate. If any travel arrangements are needed in order to attend the meeting as an interpreter, EAPN will unfortunately not be able to cover for them. All volunteers should be based in Brussels and/or be independent when it comes to reaching the event.
The deadline for applications is 21 November 2022. To submit your application, please fill this form. You will be then shortly contacted by EAPN Secretariat with more details on the role and the logistics of the days of the meeting.
