DRIVERS (2012-2015) has identified a set of policy principles by which decision makers can design better social and health policies addressing the societal and economic challenges of our time and help create a more social and fairer Europe.
The event titled ‘Tackling societal challenges: solutions from DRIVERS for Health Equity’ will provide an opportunity to learn about the DRIVERS research findings and overarching principles for policy and practice that help reduce health inequalities across the life course. Bringing together world-renowned experts including Prof. Sir Michael Marmot, the conference promises not only to be an excellent occasion to take stock of the latest European research but to stimulate debate with Members of the European Parliament and policy makers on how action to tackle health inequalities through a cross-sectoral approach can be sustained through the coming legislative period, and how recommendations from DRIVERS can inform existing, emerging and future policy initiatives.
With a new European Parliament, a new European Commission and a mid-term review of the Europe 2020 strategy underway, the time is ripe for policies to be developed based on the very latest pan-European research evidence and to discuss how we can collectively work together across sectors to tackle health inequalities which threaten the attainment of Europe 2020’s goals.
