The meeting was organized with the Rochdale Homeworking Support Group which is one of the last remaining support groups for homeworkers in the UK. The group is of enormous value, both to the women who are members, and to those who are seeking to better understand homeworking in the UK.
The meeting was supported with funds EAPN England got from the ‘National Lottery Awards for All’. Homeworkers are found throughout the world, in countries of the South and the North. Homework is work done mainly by women, for a cash income. Low pay and irregular hours are key issues for home workers. The meeting discussed how the ILO convention on homeworking could be used as one way to improve the situation for homeworkers.
