Speaking after the launch of EAPN’s minimum income campaign, Director of EAPN Ireland, Anna Visser described the initiative as “a litmus test of Europe’s commitment to the 79 million people who are at risk of poverty across the continent”.
The campaign calls on each member state to conform to the 2008 EU Commission Recommendation on Active Inclusion that recognises the “individual’s right to resources and social assistance to lead a life that is compatible with human dignity”. At a national level, EAPN Ireland is also asking people to sign up to voice their dissent at the increasing attacks on social welfare rates in Ireland.
