31/10: big mobilization against austerity measures
On 31 Oct., in Rome, a full day of mobilization, music and proposals to say NO to the constant cuts of welfare and social rights, is being organized by the “Cresce il welfare, cresce l’Italia” Network which gathers over 40 national organizations, EAPN Italia included. Through this event, social society calls on the Italian government to change tack: it’s wrong to oppose welfare and economic development, quite the contrary, welfare is the key towards a sustainable and fairer development. The 3 Gs Seminar: Women and Poverty
04/10 – Rome, International House of Women. Around 100 women participated to the Seminar and Working day on “The Three Gs: Gender, Generational and Geographical Discriminations”, where the latest data on women and poverty, elaborated by a group of researchers from the International House of Women were presented and discussed. Letizia Cesarini Sforza, together with leading sociologist Marina Piazza, the Government Under-Secretary for Social Policies, Ms Guerra, and other representatives of the Italian women’s movement, participated in the Round Table on “Women and Poverty” coordinated by the TV journalist Francesca Barzini. Citizenship and Active Participation
19-20/10 – Avellino. Meeting on “Citizenship and Active Participation”. EAPN Italia joined forces with its members from the South of Italy and other organisations and NGOs for a two-day meeting in which participated over200 people (policy makers, third sector, volunteer organisations). Two of the working groups were managed by EAPN ITALIA: “Poverty and Jails”, coordinated by Beppe Battaglia, member of the Italian delegation to the European Meetings of People experiencing Poverty and, “Europe 2020: The Flagship Initiative Platform against Poverty”, coordinated by Nicoletta Teodosi, president of EAPN ITALIA. First coordination meeting of the GRUNDTVIG Learning Partnership “Increasing Citizenship and Participation in Europe”
26/10 – Rome. This project is a partnership among the EAPN national networks of Netherland, Hungary, Austria and Italy. The aim of this two-year project is two-fold: 1. empower people experiencing poverty so that they can directly coordinate mixed working groups of people in poverty, local and regional administrators and policy makers, representatives of the third sector and empower them to “speak for themselves”, 2. Build on the participants’ experience in order to elaborate a common method for managing these working groups. More information to come as the project goes on on www.cilap.eu.
