On 16 June, EAPN organized a contact-making seminar with representatives of NGOs engaged in anti-poverty work in Estonia.
24 representatives of 16 organizations shared their views on the current reality of poverty in Estonia, the different vulnerable groups and the way the crisis has worsened the situation for many people living in the country, the measures taken by the state to address major challenges and the relations between NGOs and public authorities. Participants also discussed the possibility of establishing a national anti-poverty network in Estonia. An initiative group will disseminate information about the results of this meeting and will broaden the group of NGOs interested to establish a national anti-poverty network. On the occasion of this visit, EAPN also met representatives of the Ministry of Social Affairs and discussed the preparation for 2010 – European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.
