The conference was opened by Silvia Costa (MEP) before presenting the concept of Inner Design Technology (Patrizio Paoletti Foundation), exploring the necessary core capacities for self knowledge and tools for self-education and action (Daniel Kropf- Universal Education Foundation). Jana Hainsworth (Eurochild) made the link to the policy level, and how the learning for well-being principles can help to put children’s rights, promotion of empowerment and well-being at the heart of policy. Ivano Abbruzzi (L’Albero della Vita Foundation), then described a concrete experience of embedding such principles in elementary schools in Italy and Switzerland. The conference came at a timely moment when social investment in education, primarily focussed on the labour-force is getting increasing support, and gave a much-needed call for a re-focussing of the EU on core values, rights, empowerment and well-being.
