EAPN made a key note presentation in the opening day of the kick-off conference of the new Spring Alliance campaign (28-29 January, Brussels), organized jointly by the Social Platform, the European Trade Union Confederation ( ETUC), the European Environmental Bureau ( EEB).
The speech challenged the record and myths of the current growth and jobs agenda to deliver on poverty and inequality, supporting the need for a shift to more social and sustainable model for development which can promote equality and global equity.
This new campaign aims to build a broad alliance starting with 3 key sectors: social and green NGO’s and Trade Unions to campaign for change in the post 2010 agenda – to build a social and green sustainable future for the EU.
Following the conference, the working groups established will work to build a common manifesto to be launched in June, with a follow up conference in September.
