{jathumbnail}On July 10th, EAPN wrote to President Barroso regarding the new Commission’s work programme and strategic priorities he will be presenting on 14-16th of July to the new Parliament opening session. EAPN highlights how the current growth and competition focus of the Lisbon Strategy has not managed to reduce the gap between rich and poor, with 79 million people still facing poverty.
In its letter, EAPN calls on the Commission to deliver a social and sustainable future, which puts people and the planet first and to make the Parliament deliver on its promise to “make a decisive impact on the eradication of poverty”. In the letter, EAPN presents its detailed proposal for the EU post 2010 strategy to answer these concerns, “An EU we can trust: EAPN Proposals on the EU strategy post 2010”.
In light of the European Parliament opening session, EAPN also wrote to the leaders of all Parliamentary groups to present its proposal and invite them for a discussion around it.
