19-21/09 – EAPN Spain and EAPN Castilla y Leon organize the 2nd National Congress of people experiencing poverty in Valladolid, which is also the 9th meeting of People experiencing poverty organised at national level in Spain. Under the slogan “Citizenship Rights, from information to participation”, the Congress gathers over 160 people from all over Spain will gather at this meeting in order to meet fundamental rights that are recognized as citizens of the European Union. It takes place in the framework of the 2013 European Year of Citizens 2013.
The objective of the 2013 European Year of Citizens is to achieve a greater understanding and awareness of the rights and responsibilities associated with citizenship of the European Union. This Meeting is part of the Europe 2020 Strategy, which aims to achieve smart and sustainable development through education, research and innovation. The participation of people experiencing poverty (PEP) is one of the fundamental worklines of EAPN, with debates in which participation is translated into concrete proposals for policies that directly affect people experiencing poverty. This national Congress is the 2nd after the first held in 2010, during the European Year Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion. It is also the 9th time a meeting of people experiencing poverty is organised at national level, with the difference that Congresses are on a larger scale, with even more participants and lasting 3 full days.
