The meeting focused on analyzing the impact of the EU economic governance instruments and the Annual Growth Survey. EAPN intervened in the session on how to improve the democratic legitimacy of the European Semester, with Emilie Turenen MEP, Danielle Auroi (MP France), who highlighted new proposals from the French National Assembly to separate their parliamentary structure for scrutiny and better democratic input to the European Semester. EAPN (Sian Jones, Policy Coordinator), highlighted EAPN’s actions on Europe 2020, the NRPs/NSRs particularly the Country-Specific Recommendations, and the relevance of stakeholders and political parties working together to drive a more transparent debate about the EU impact of the EU on social objectives at the national level and to forge common agendas.
