On 14 September, Sian Jones, Policy Coordinator for EAPN, spoke to the Social Protection Committee in its meeting in Stockholm, as part of the Social Platform Delegation.
The Delegation presented the Spring Alliance manifesto and its proposals for a change of paradigm post 2010 and on strengthening the Social OMC. Most of these proposals reflect strongly EAPN priorities. A shortlist of 10 key demands was raised as priorities for SPC action. This was the first participation of the Social Platform in an exchange with the full SPC, and it is hoped that it will mark the beginning of a more structured dialogue with the SPC, focused on strengthening the OMC, in the post 2010 discussions and in preparation for the EU Year against poverty and social inclusion.
