EAPN recently submitted its contribution to the second stage wide-ranging public consultation entitled “Modernising social protection for greater social justice and economic cohesion: taking forward the active inclusion of people furthest from the labour market”.
This consultation which ended on 29 February, is key and concerns some of the main areas and EU process that are of interest for EAPN. It opens a window of opportunity to move forward on the effective implementation of the 1992 recommendation of the European Council which agrees to lay down common criteria on “sufficient resources and social assistance in social protection system”.
In the framework of its EU-wide campaign for Adequate Minimum Income schemes launched in December 2007, EAPN calls on all EU Member States to respond favourably to the Commission’s consultation on Active inclusion. For EAPN, it is time to state clearly that Adequate Minimum Income schemes are a fundamental prerequisite for an EU based on social justice and equal opportunities for all!
