Living water, that’s my name, that’s me – An autobiography of Mayim’s life in a world full of limitations
‘Mayim. Living water, that’s my name, that’s me – An autobiography about the life of Mayim in a world full of limitations’ is a special book by Marcel Kolder from Almere, written from the point of view of his daughter Mayim. The book discusses the value of a person and how much happiness you can get out of life. This particularly beautiful biography has been published by Boekscout Publishers since Friday 25 June 2021.
My name Mayim is the combination of the letters in the names of my parents and my brother. Michelle, Marcel, joined by a Y-grec. The symbol of meeting. Confluence as my father solemnly says. mayim. That became my name. And so my life story begins. Mayim also has a meaning. When I was eight months old, a professor from the Academic Medical Center told my parents about this. In Hebrew, Mayim means water. So living water. I embrace it. By the way, it’s the same professor who discovered the amazing shapes of my brain on an MRI scan.’
About the author
Mayim, the star of the book, is one of the young people that was part of the EAPN Netherlands Team in the European Youth Event 2020 that should have taken place in October at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
Everyone has their own value, regardless of the differences between them. Dignity is the core of every person and has to do with the feeling of happiness. The value of every person is independent of the assessment of your social relevance. The reason Marcel Kolder wrote this book with his daughter. This is Marcel’s first novel, but certainly not his last. His severely handicapped daughter Mayim lives at home, in Almere, in an ordinary city district, between friends and neighbours, who appreciate her for what she is. The book is a description from her perspective: through interesting observations and from an angle you don’t always expect. This book tells the extraordinary story of Mayim, from in her mother’s womb to now, a twenty-one-year-old woman. The reader is taken along in the most diverse fragments of her life, these are the key moments that shape her and her loved ones into who they are. These moments are telling because of the eye for detail, the careful balance between descriptions and thoughts, and the dialogues that feel very natural. The result is a powerful work by a special person that you as a reader will love.
