The campaign aims at raising awareness and mobilizing actors at national and local levels to join forces to combat poverty and social exclusion in the country. Statistics show that every third person in Macedonia lives at risk of poverty and while the government has taken some measures, primarily conditional cash transfers, NGOs call for a stronger commitment and mobilization on the issue.
The launching press conference included representatives of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, Macedonian Anti-Poverty Platform (MAPP), EAPN, representatives of the European Union Delegation and, as the main funders, Austrian Embassy.
The campaign will feature a series of roundtables in several cities in Macedonia, involving NGO representatives, decision-makers from national and local level and people living in poverty; a video spot which will be broadcast in November-December on several TV channels with national coverage and a closing conference in Skopje.
At the launching of the press-conference, Ms.Mila Carovska, the president of MAPP handed to Mr. Marjanco Todorovski , State Secretary from Ministry of Labour and Social the policy brief titled “Human Rights Based Approach in the Fight against Poverty and Social Exclusion”.
In the context of this visit, the EAPN Development Officer met MAPP members on the 28th October and discussed the cooperation and future membership of MAPP in EAPN.
