26-28/09 – The activists from the Macedonian Anti-Poverty Platform (MAPP) and the representatives of civil-society organizations from all over Macedonia, supported by their partners from the European Anti-Poverty Network, the Institute for Human Rights L. Boltzmann and the Austrian Development Cooperation, gathered in hotel Molika in Pelister, Bitola, in order to attract public attention to difficult living conditions and problems that the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia are facing on daily bases, and to make the first declaration of the persons living in poverty and social exclusion.
MAPP activists and representatives of civil-society organizations from throughout the Republic of Macedonia submitted the declaration of people living in poverty and social exclusion to the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, while seeking support from the Government of the Republic of Macedonia in the efforts to tackle the key challenges of policy making and implementation in the area of unemployment, social and health protection and gender equality.
Specific requests were directed towards the implementation of the adopted national strategies to be conducted in a coordinated and effective manner, providing better and more dignified living conditions for people living in poverty and social exclusion, taking decisive steps in reforming national policies and legislation which only increases the existing challenges faced by vulnerable and marginalized social groups, and following the EU’s method of the benefits offered by the socially inclusive society.
The conference was attended by approximately 120 people and was covered by all major media TV and radio stations in the country.
