2013 Annual Conference – 30 September-1 October (AM)

On 30 September we had an 1) internal exchange on building a campaign in relation to the European Elections in the morning, followed by a 2) capacity building and review of our policy work on Europe 2020 – aimed primarily at members but involving decision makers. And on

1 October had a morning 3) lobbying conference on the European elections with representatives of the main European political parties.

2) CAPACITY BUILDING and REVIEW of our policy work on Europe 2020, 30 Sept PM

– Aims of the conference

The workshop aimed to promote an active dialogue to review progress on Europe 2020’s poverty target and commitments to stakeholder dialogue, in the context of increasing austerity and an EU democratic/ participative deficit.

  • To promote mutual learning and help build capacity for people with direct experience of poverty and their NGOs, and other stakeholders, emphasizing their key role in stakeholder processes linked to the European Semester and Europe 2020.
  • To present EAPN’s New 2013 Assessment of the NRPs and Key Messages, based on national and European Organization member’s contributions.
  • To promote an active dialogue between EU decision makers and key stakeholders on the way forward: to ensure that Europe 2020 makes concrete progress on poverty and participation, through Europe 2020 and the European Semester.

3) LOBBYING CONFERENCE on the Europe Elections, 1 Oct AM

– Aims of the conference

Between 22 and 25 May 2014 European citizens will have the opportunity to elect for the 8th time the representatives of the European Parliament.  This EAPN Conference aimed at:

  • Ensuring that the election debates are addressing the impact of current EU policies and actions on access to social rights
  • Ensuring that social issues, including the fight against poverty, inequality and discrimination are part of the debates at European and national levels in the context of the European Parliament Elections 2014
  • Influencing the content of the election manifestos of the political parties and the commitments they will make as part of their election campaigns
  • Strengthening alliances with other stakeholders
  • Generating momentum for an EAPN campaign on the European Elections
