This extraordinary type of event was the very first edition of ‘Row4Rights’. Apart from being a unique sporting event, it also aimed at supporting the work of the European Anti-Poverty Network and Amnesty International Slovakia and at raising awareness on the lack of respect of human rights and the need to pressure public institutions.
“Human rights are diverse and inter-connected. Row4Rights calls for the right for people to live free of poverty, inequalities and discrimination”, said Fintan Farrell, Director of EAPN. “We must pressure our public institutions to ensure that all human rights are respected”, he added.
Row4Rights also highlighted some specific human rights which need more respect, notably the right of gay, lesbian and trans-gender people to live free from discrimination.
This experience required courage, strength and solidarity from the 120 rowers, as well as from all the people who assisted them, to ensure a very enjoyable and successful event.
