In a presentation to the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Education and Social Protection, the European Anti Poverty Network (EAPN) Ireland pointed to the increase in poverty and deprivation in the most recent CSO statistics. EAPN Ireland presented six steps to a more equal and inclusive Ireland.
In preparation for the Forum on Tuesday 26 March 2013, 156 people took part in workshops organised by Community Workers Coop (CWC) and EAPN Ireland in Longford, Cork, Tralee, Wexford, Dublin and Galway and a national meeting on ‘poverty affecting women and minorities’.
Participants from the regional meetings held up placards with key messages while Robin Hanan was giving the feedback report at the opening plenary.
(Irish MEP Emer Costello is writing the report on the new Fund for the European Parliament’s Committee on Employment and Social Affairs). The total Fund of around €2.5 billion targets the most deprived persons to alleviate food deprivation, homelessness the material deprivation of children.
