On the occasion of the recent meeting of the EAPN Executive Committee in Edinburgh, the Scottish Anti Poverty Alliance held a seminar on the role of small nations and regions in the EU.
The seminar provided an opportunity to understand the anti poverty strategy of the Scottish Government and to learn lessons from the Swedish and Danish approach to social policies and tackling poverty. A theme which emerged strongly from the conference was the link between poverty and inequalities. A second seminar was also held aimed at preparation for 2010, the EU Year against Poverty and Social Exclusion. Both seminars were held in the Edinburgh Council Chambers and were attended by over 100 people. A reception was also held in the Scottish Parliament and this was an occasion to seek the Parliaments support for the EU Inclusion strategy (the Social OMC) and for ensuring the success of the 2010 EU year.
