On the occasion of the EAPN Executive meeting in Edinburgh, the Scottish Poverty Alliance is organising two half-day seminars exploring the links between Europe and the fight against poverty. Both seminars are open to all and free, but places are limited so register now!
• Punching Above our Weight? Smaller nations and regions in the fight against poverty in Europe, Thursday 24 September 2009, 1.30 – 5pm, City Chambers, Edinburgh.
This half-day seminar is an opportunity to discuss how smaller countries and regions across the EU have attempted to address poverty and inequality, and to look at what we can learn from them. Some the issues to be covered include tackling inequalities, work and welfare, and services to address poverty.
• Beyond 2010: Ensuring a Lasting Legacy for the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, Friday 25 September 2009, 9.30am – 1pm, City Chambers, Edinburgh. Did you know that 2010 has been designated as European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion? This seminar will be an opportunity to hear from the UK and Scottish Governments, the European Commission and the European Anti-Poverty Network about their plans for the year, and how you can be involved.
