EAPN Portugal: a full agenda of activities from 10 to 27 Oct! and the IVth Meeting of People experiencing poverty on employability this year
EAPN Portugal is organising a wide range of activities at national and local levels around 17.10 (check calendar!), from 10 to 27 October, as well as the IV National Meeting of People Experiencing Poverty and Social Exclusion on the topic this year of employability. EAPN Spain and the Alliance against Poverty: Cuts generate poverty – Stand against it!
The Spanish Alliance against Poverty (La Alianza contra la Pobreza) will demonstrate on 17 October, International Day for the Eradication of Poverty
The commemoration of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is of special relevance this year. The crisis and the continuous cuts have made the number of people experiencing poverty and exclusion explode. We are now talking of almost 27% of the Spanish population. Throughout the world, around 1,300 billion people suffer from extreme poverty and almost 1 billion are hungry and have no access to drinking water and other basic services such as health and education services.
The Alliance against Poverty, a platform gathering development NGOs, social movements, trade unions, environmental platforms, feminist as well as religious movements, etc, call on people to demonstrate on 17th October, to 1) commemorate the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty 2) refuse cuts 3) remind leaders that there are other ways to make politics. Austerity measures have made people poorer, in Spain and throughout the world!

EAPN Luxembourg: a large event on 17 October, Fighting the violence and poverty and committing for peace
On the topic of “Fighting the violence of poverty and committing for peace”, EAPN Luxembourg organizes, as every year with a wide range of civil-society organisations, a large event on 17th October, commemorating the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. A march will take place, as well as a full range of artistic events (exhibitions, theatre plays…). Check it all on http://www.bandeaublanc.lu/spip.php?article73. EAPN Luxembourg and all other CSOs involved form the Luxemburg national representation of the White Band, symbol of the Global Call to Action Against Poverty, born in Johannesburg in 2004 and made of coalitions, community groups, trade unions, individuals, organisations, etc, involved in the fight against poverty. Because of national elections, BAPN will commemorate the 17th October 2 weeks earlier, on 30th September in a big event gathering not only its regional anti-poverty networks, but also trade unions, mutual societies and other civil-society actors like ATD Fourth World within a national Platform for a national demonstration in Brussels, to urge the federal Government to respond to crucial claims with regard to employment, income, pensions and social services & rights. EAPN Germany: report on poverty and press conference at Bahnof Zoo
As the German government has just published its “4th Report on Poverty and Social Exclusion”, EAPN Germany issues its own shadow report on poverty and social exclusion in cooperation with a street magazine distributed by homeless people. A press conference is also planned at the main train station in Western Berlin, a social hotspot called “Bahnhof Zoo”. Open the report here.
