24/11/2015 – More than one in four children in Europe are at risk of poverty and social exclusion, which will have repercussions for them throughout life. On Tuesday 24 November MEPs adopted a resolution urging EU countries to boost their efforts to combat child poverty and social inequalities. The text was adopted with 569 in favour, 77 against and 49 abstentions. Check out our map for the latest statistics on child poverty.

07/12/2015 – The campaign to get the declaration on investing in children in the EP has been successful, with EAPN support. In a historical move this week, the majority of Members of the European Parliament signed a declaration promoting investing in children. The Written Declaration, designed to raise political awareness towards the European Commission and the Member States, calls for social and macroeconomic policies to protect children and their families as a political priority, especially those living in poverty.
25/11/2015 – Eurochild welcomes the adoption of the European Parliament Resolution Reducing inequalities with a special focus on child poverty by rapporteur Inês Cristina Zuber. The resolution, adopted today by large majority is the formal endorsement of the 2013 European Commission Recommendation Investing in Children: Breaking the cycle of disadvantage. This is the first EP resolution specifically on child poverty since 2008.

EAPN Portugal, as a promoter of a National Working Group on Child Poverty, organised within that working group a Conference on the topic “A look at the welfare of children and youth under the perspective of the Children’s Rights” . This event was associated with the celebration of 10 December – The International Human Rights Day – and was an opportunity to reflect on that day, through the contributions of the various speakers on the Rights of the Child.
