On 18 June, the European Parliament will vote in its plenary session in Strasbourg on amendments to the Energy Package. EAPN wrote a letter to the Members of the European Parliament urging them to actively support the important amendments on Energy Poverty.
The main aim of the capacity building seminar was to achieve a new momentum on EAPN’s
engagement with the NAP/OMC and to promote more effective engagement at national and EU level.
In a letter to President Barroso, EAPN expresses its serious concerns about the lack of respect for the consultation process that the Commission launched on the future social policy agenda for the EU.
On the occasion of an EAPN seminar which was held in Paris on 13 June, EAPN presented the future French Presidency, with proposals regarding principles on Active Inclusion. The French are planning to adopt such principles at the Council meeting on 15-16 December 2008.
This tool kit is to help EAPN National Networks engage with the process this year, and to press for a stronger focus on social inclusion at all level.
This tool kit aims to provide useful information and ideas to support national EAPN networks in engaging with the National Reports on strategies for social protection and social inclusion (SPSI) and particularly the NAPs Inclusion at national level.
Ahead of the meeting of the College of Commissioners on 30 April dedicated to EU social policy agenda, EAPN sent EU Commissioners a letter on 25 April urging them to deliver a Social Policy Agenda that matches Europe’s social reality and the values and objectives of the EU Treaties.

(See below), with additional proposals which arose from EAPN recent discussions with our Social Inclusion Working Group as part of a Capacity Building seminar and workshop on the OMC ( 29th March), involving members from 24 member states.
The theme of the Meeting – Participation is a two way street – focused on the importance of Governments at national and EU levels actively engaging with people experiencing poverty on their situations.
The outstanding innovation of the 4th Meeting is to have opened up the dialogue between the “ambassadors” of people experiencing poverty and “invited guests”, the key contacts at official and decision-making levels.
