{jathumbnail}EAPN has lobbied actively to defend and reinforce the Social Open Method of Coordination (OMC) as an independent, integrated, rights-based strategy aiming to prevent as well as alleviate poverty and ensure access to pensions, health and long-term care and presents today its position on the role of the social OMC.
14/04 – Following its annual conference, EPHA launched a press release “Life expectancy of the poorest is eight years shorter than for the most wealth” highlighting the impact of poverty on health inequality as one of the key social determinants –and calling for action from all actors, particularly in the context of Europe 2020.

EAPN Director, Fintan Farrell, was invited by the European Green Party to take part in their plenary discussion on the social dimension of the Green New Deal at its Council held in Budapest from 21 March to 3 April.
{jathumbnail}In advance of the Spring Council 24-25 March, EAPN wrote to the Prime Ministers and Heads of State and Governments, to express its alarm at the current discussions and decisions taking place on Economic Governance (Reform of the Stability and Growth Pact and the Pact for the Euro), happening without adequate public and democratic scrutiny and without a proper assessment of their social impact.
23/03 – The seminar was organized as part of the EPC Well-Being 2030 project.The seminar produced an unusually frank exchange between a representative of the European Commission’s Economic and Financial DG (ECFIN) of the (Karl Pichelmann), Trade Unions: Rory O’ Farrell, and Sian Jones from EAPN.
On 10-11 March representatives of trade unions, NGOs, and social networks from 15 EU countries got together for the first Spring Social Conference, in which also EAPN participated.
EAPN’s Policy Coordinator Sian Jones, gave a presentation on the social impact of austerity measures at The European Trade Union Institute and the European Public Sector Unions joint conference on Austerity, economic governance reforms and social policies in Europe in Brussels.
