Everybody agrees that people should be able to heat their home but his is fast becoming a ‘luxury’ for many people experiencing poverty. With rising energy prices, the question of how to solve energy poverty is becoming a major challenge for the EU.
This tool kit is to help EAPN National Networks engage with the process this year, and to press for a stronger focus on social inclusion at all level.

On the 6th of May, the Internal Market Committee voted on the report on the Internal Market in Electricity, The report is mainly focussed on the thorny question of “ownership unbundling” ie forcing energy firms to split up their energy production and distribution businesses. On 16 -19 June the European Parliament will vote in plenary on the report.
EAPN has been actively preparing its members to engage with the new cycle of the Open Method of Coordination on social protection and social inclusion through a series of capacity building tools and events.
These events involved EAPN National members, facilitators involved in the 7th People Experiencing poverty conference, and members from key Development organisations including CONCORD, Solidar, Caritas, ATD Fourth World and Dignity International.
