EAPN participates in Human Inner Design Conference: Shaping a new role for European Citizens and Institutions in Time of Change

06/11 – EAPN participated in  a foreward-looking conference in the European Parliament, organized by Fondazione Patrizio Paoletti together with the Learning for Well-Being Alliance and Eurochild. The conference aimed to identify new opportunities to promote learning for well being for children and adults: a better understanding of how people work (their interior world) and to promote a change in education/training systems to encourage new skills which can help people to better manage change,  create pro-active and pro-social attitudes.  

EAPN presents its recommendations at event hosted by MEP Dennis de Jong: Poverty Reduction – Bridging the Gap

 On 16 October, EAPN Policy coordinator Sian Jones spoke on the role of Europe 2020 and the current state of play of the European Semester in the fight against poverty, along with Sonja Leemkuil, from EAPN Netherlands, who gave her testimony, at the event Poverty Reduction – Bridging the Gap, organized by Dennis de Jong as part of activities for the International Day of Poverty for the Dutch Socialist Party.

EAPN attends meeting with Commissioner Andor to discuss the social dimension of the EMU

07/10 – As part of a delegation of the European Platform, EAPN met with Employment and Social Affairs Commissioner Lazlo Andor.  While the EAPN welcomed the latest commission on the social dimension of the EMU, we stated clearly where the communication fell short of our expectations. EAPN Speaks in FEANTSA public hearing on participation of homeless people

03/10 – FEANTSA and Niccolò Rinaldi MEP (ALDE group) co-hosted a public hearing to raise awareness about how homeless people can participate in the development of homeless services and decision-making with regard to homelessness Participation of homeless people: Get a different result… get people participating!

EAPN speaks in Roundtable Discussion launching new White Paper of the International Juvenile Justice Office

23/09 – EAPN spoke in the EESC in a roundtable panel part on: The impact of the economic crisis on employment, education, social exclusion and children´s rights”in the framework of the IJJO White Paper Launch : “Save money, protect society and realise youth potential – Improving youth justice practice in a time of economic crisis”.The IJJO report highlights the social impact of the crisis on young people, showing that the cuts have been made ‘where it hurts them most’ affecting household income, services and employment, which have repercussions in the rise of juvenile crime.

EAPN attends the Expert discussion ”A leap ahead: social innovation in social services” organised by Eurodiaconia

26/09 – EAPN attended the Expert discussion ”A leap ahead : social innovation in social services” organised by Eurodiaconia. The discussion involved NGOs, European Commission (DG Enterprises, Bureau of European Policy Advisors) and academics.

EAPN attends EPC Briefing: Commissioner Andor presents his vision on the Social Dimension of the EMU

24/09 – Commissioner Andor presented his vision on the Social Dimension of the EMU to a well-attended EPC briefing, prior to the publication of the Commission Communication, due to be published on 3 October. Commissioner Andor talked of Europe facing an ‘existential crisis’, resulting from the insufficiencies of the economic framework of the EMU and the failure to take action on social imbalances. The ‘polarisation and widening gap’ between the north/centre and the peripheries in Europe, and regions were reaching a state of ‘social emergency’, as highlighted by President Barroso in his State of the Union Speech in September.

 

Water is a human right: Thank you for signing!

11/09 – News Splash n°22: On 10 September we stopped collecting signatures for the first successful European Citizens’ Initiative “Water is a human right!”. Nearly 1.9 million citizens have signed the statement of support demanding that the European Commission “implement the human right to water and sanitation in European legislation”.

EAPN Award for Transnational Inspiration and Learning 2013

The European Anti-Poverty Network held the first edition of the EAPN Award for Transnational Inspiration and Learning in the Fight against Poverty and Social Exclusion, 2013 on 30 Sept. at  the KVS in Brussels. The EAPN Award is supported by the EAPN Fund.
