03/10 – FEANTSA and Niccolò Rinaldi MEP (ALDE group) co-hosted a public hearing to raise awareness about how homeless people can participate in the development of homeless services and decision-making with regard to homelessness Participation of homeless people: Get a different result… get people participating!
23/09 – EAPN spoke in the EESC in a roundtable panel part on: The impact of the economic crisis on employment, education, social exclusion and children´s rights”in the framework of the IJJO White Paper Launch : “Save money, protect society and realise youth potential – Improving youth justice practice in a time of economic crisis”.The IJJO report highlights the social impact of the crisis on young people, showing that the cuts have been made ‘where it hurts them most’ affecting household income, services and employment, which have repercussions in the rise of juvenile crime.
26/09 – EAPN attended the Expert discussion ”A leap ahead : social innovation in social services” organised by Eurodiaconia. The discussion involved NGOs, European Commission (DG Enterprises, Bureau of European Policy Advisors) and academics.
24/09 – Commissioner Andor presented his vision on the Social Dimension of the EMU to a well-attended EPC briefing, prior to the publication of the Commission Communication, due to be published on 3 October. Commissioner Andor talked of Europe facing an ‘existential crisis’, resulting from the insufficiencies of the economic framework of the EMU and the failure to take action on social imbalances. The ‘polarisation and widening gap’ between the north/centre and the peripheries in Europe, and regions were reaching a state of ‘social emergency’, as highlighted by President Barroso in his State of the Union Speech in September.
11/09 – News Splash n°22: On 10 September we stopped collecting signatures for the first successful European Citizens’ Initiative “Water is a human right!”. Nearly 1.9 million citizens have signed the statement of support demanding that the European Commission “implement the human right to water and sanitation in European legislation”.
The European Anti-Poverty Network held the first edition of the EAPN Award for 
Transnational Inspiration and Learning in the Fight against Poverty and Social Exclusion, 2013 on 30 Sept. at the KVS in Brussels. The EAPN Award is supported by the EAPN Fund.

12/09/2013, Brussels – President Barroso made his State of the Union speech yesterday in the European Parliament, setting the tone of the European Commission’s priorities for the coming year.
10/09/2013 – As of yesterday the national branches of the right2water.eu campaign have been handing in the signatures collected to the respective national authorities. We are now demanding that the European Commission to implements the Human Right to water and sanitation in European Union basic legislation.
