“It would be an unbearable truth if we can not from the conclusions of this Round Table and all the other actions connected to the EU Inclusion strategy, develop proposals and actions that are capable of reversing the trend towards growing levels of poverty and inequality in our societies”, declared Fintan Farrell, the EAPN Director, acting as general Rapporteur of the 7th European Round Table on Poverty and Social exclusion which took place in Marseilles on 15-16 October.
The Employment Working Group of EAPN held its annual capacity building seminar on 21 November 2008. In line with EAPN capacity building strategy, these seminars are aimed at strengthening the capacity of our network in relation to our core work areas, through the sharing of full information as well as in depth exchanges among members on national realities.
{jathumbnail}This year’s meeting, entitled ‘Four Pillars in the Fight against Poverty’, focused on four topics: Social services, Services of general interest, Housing and Minimum income.
This second forum moves forward on promoting an active debate on clarifying the legal framework applicable to social services of general interest.
On October 17th, the World Day to Overcome Extreme Poverty, EAPN and its members organised activities all around Europe to show that more than ever, the fight against poverty and social exclusion must be at the top of the EU and national political agenda.
In EAPN we are specifically concerned to work with, and in solidarity with, migrants as part of the fight against poverty and social exclusion.
If more than half the MEPs sign the declaration by the 7th of November, the Commission is called upon to make a response.
The seminar had two purposes: to promote and illustrate EAPN’s vision of Active Inclusion to policy makers and to build capacity within the network regarding Active Inclusion.
2008 is crucial for EAPN in finalizing the preparation, as well as defining the messages and the legacy it expects out of the 2010 Year.
